The leg spinner Zahid Mehmood has replaced the left arm spinner Muhammad Nawaz in Pakistan squad for 3-match ODI and one-off T20I against Australia which will be held in Lahore from 29th March. Muhammad Nawaz has not recovered from the foot injury that he sustained during the PSL 7 and has been ruled out of the series.
Zahid Mehmood will act as a cover for leg-spinner Shadab Khan whose fitness will be reviewed before the upcoming white-ball series. The white-ball players of Pakistan are scheduled to gather at the team hotel in Lahore on 22nd March and will start the training on 25th March. The chief selector of Pakistan cricket team, Muhammad Wasim ahs said that it is really unfortunate that Muhammad Nawaz has not recovered from the foot injury he suffered during HBL PSL 7 and we also have to reassess the fitness of Shadab Khan once he will join the squad before playing him in this high voltage series. He also said that Zahid Mehmood has been with the national side for the Tests and he has also been part for HBL PSL playing for Islamabad United. Muhammad Wasim said that the selection committee felt that Zahid Mehmood is an adequate replacement in the present situation and can potentially make a huge contribution to the team if required.
