Former captain of Pakistan cricket team Younis Khan has been appointed as the new batting coach of Afghanistan’s upcoming tour to the UAE. Just recently, Afghanistan also appointed former Pakistani pacer Umer Gul as the bowling coach. Both Younis Khan and Umer Gul are expected to do wonders in developing the new face of Afghanistan cricket team.
Younis Khan is one of the greatest batsmen that Pakistan has produced. He represented Pakistan in 117 Tests in his 17 years of international career after making debut in 2000. Former captain of Pakistan cricket team scored 10,099 runs in his Test career with 34 centuries at an average of 52.1. He has a very impressive record in limited over cricket as well. Younis Khan scored 7,249 runs in 265 ODIs at an average of 31.2. He also played 25 T20Is for Pakistan and led Pakistan to T20I World Cup victory in 2009.
The CEO of Afghanistan Cricket Board has mentioned that the upcoming tour to the UAE will be a great opportunity for the Afghan youngsters to build their careers and get themselves ready for the competitive tournaments later in the year. He also added that by appointing Younis Khan and Umer Gul in the coaching setup will improve the batting and bowling departments of Afghanistan.
Afghanistan national team left Kabul for the UAE on 31st March, aiming to get the UAE residency for preparatory camp for their upcoming series later this year. Previously Afghanistan played a series against Bangladesh and managed to draw the two-match T20I series.
