WhatsApp adds biometrics authentication requirement to link account to PC

After a change in the privacy policy that made many people shift to other apps like Telegram and Signal, WhatsApp is now adding a new layer of security in account linking process with PC. The messaging service that has been owned by Facebook is now pushing an update that will let the users to take advantage if the biometrics of their phone for authentication.

Any device which has got bio-metric authentication like fingerprint, face or iris unlock will be able to take advantage of this security feature. It has not got the conventional options like password, PIN or pattern unlock. The app will ask for the biometrics only when you will link the account to the computer for the very first time. WhatsApp is very cautious with the communication with this time and they have already clarified that the company can not access the biometric information stored by the OS of the device. The new update is not live yet but it will come very soon. The company has also promised that it will add more functionality to it’s desktop and web clients in 2021. You can expect support for voice and video calls and multi-device login.
