23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams has withdrawn from US Open due to torn hamstring. Serena, who will turn 40 next month has been in semi-finals of the last two hard court Slams she played. After returning from the maternity leave in 2018 she reached in four Grand Slam finals. Since her comeback, this year’s US Open will be her first Grand Slam which she will miss due to injury.
Serena took to Instagram and said, “After careful consideration and following the advice of my doctors and medical team, I have decided to withdraw from the US Open to allow my body to heal completely from a torn hamstring,”
Serena Williams has not been seen in action since retiring in the first set of the first-round game of Wimbledon after she pulled ha hamstring. She also missed Western and Southern Open Cincinnati. 6-times US Open champion Serena Williams was confident to participate in this year’s tournament which will start on 30th August but she could not recover in time. Before Serena, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer also withdrew from US Open due to injuries.
