The most famous and at the same time controversial social media app TikTok has been banned in Pakistan. This app is currently inaccessible in the whole country. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has confirmed the ban on TikTok in their tweet.

PTA has more than 20 million active users in the country. They were asked by PTA to develop an effective mechanism for moderating the illegal online content. However, TikTok failed to comply the instructions therefore PTA was forced to block the application in the whole country. It has been informed to TikTok administration that the authority is open for engagement and can reverse the decision subject to the satisfactory mechanism by TikTok to moderate the illegal content. TikTok earlier ensured Pakistani government that systematic processes are in place for blocking the indecent content. TikTok was recently blamed for one person committing suicide. Some criminal people also started using this popular app and threaten the common people. In one instance a TikTok user openly threaten a police officer. There was loads of indecent content on TikTok which was affecting the young generation of Pakistan therefore this decision was taken. Pakistan’s famous TikTok star Jannat Mirza was most effected by this ban as ironically she reached 10M followers today and on the same day PTA banned the app. Jannat Mirza has become the top Twitter trend in Pakistan. People took to Twitter to express their feelings for Jannat Mirza and TikTok Ban.

However Jannat Mirza has said that it is good if TikTok has been banned temporarily as many people were posting cringe and indecent content but if it is a permanent ban then it is not a good thing. She siad that she has started her career from TikTok and now she is working in a movie.
