Huawei’s CEO Richard Yu unveiled the latest flagship smartphone lineup at an online launch event. The Mate 40 series has come up without Google apps and services plus the Huawei’s App Gallery is also without various other famous apps. The hardware is without a doubt pretty much impressive but it is very difficult to grab the attention of western audiences without the support of famous apps.
Mate 40 series has been equipped with Huawei’s new 5nm Kirin 9000 5G chip but if we believe on the rumours, Huawei has 10 million of these stockpiled so there may be a limit to how many of thee phones can be produced. Because of the trade restrictions which are imposed by US administration, it is impossible for the Taiwanese manufacturer TSMC to supply more semiconductors to Huawei built using the US technology. With these restrictions and no support for the famous apps, Huawei will find it very difficult in shifting some a sizeable unit outside China. Huawei has produced staggering hardware and it is a shame that they have to face all these restrictions. Mate 40 Pro has been equipped with a 6.76-inch OLED display with the curved edges that slope around the sides. There is a 13MP selfie camera and also a 3D face unlock sensor. It has also been equipped with an in-display fingerprint scanner for the ones who prefer the biometric method. It has got a 4,400mAh battery which is capable of rapid 66W wired as well as 50W wireless charging. It has also been equipped with a 6.5inch OLD display with 90Hz refresh rate. The camera system of new flagship has got excellent camera systems which can be competed by Apple and Google only. Mate 40 is no different at all on this front. All of the models use a 50MP RYYB main sensor that allows a fabulous amount of light in. On the Mate 40 Pro, it is accompanied by 20MP ultra-wide (120°) plus it has got a 12MP periscope lens with 5x optical zoom.
Huawei will have EMUI 11 software which is based on Android 10. Huawei’s App Gallery is replacing Google Play Store. Apart from Google apps many other apps like Zoom, Netflix and Slack are also not available and many more won’t work as expected. These shortcomings will make is a challenge to sell the phone in European market despite having a top-notch hardware.
