Serena Williams has won the 3rd round match against the 2017 US Open champions Sloane Stephens. Serena started the game with a 2-6 loss in the first set. It would have been the earliest exit from the Flushing Meadows for Serena since 1998 when she lost in the 3rd round of the tournament. At that time Serena was only 16 and was yet to win a Grand Slam title. Now she will turn 39 in few weeks’ time and is chasing her 24th Grand Slam in singles. Now Serena will face Maria Sakkari of Greece in the fourth round.

Serena has won five matches out of six against Sloane Stephens. When she lost the opening set, she didn’t look worried at all and that is the hallmark of a champion. In the second set, Serena was pumped up and she earned her first break for 4-2 leads as she raised the bar of her game. This time the scores were same as that if the first set but roles were reversed as Serena won the 2nd set 6-2. In the 3rd set Williams just destroyed Sloane Stephens with her bullet like services. After winning the match 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, Serena addressed her daughter Olympia in the stands, she said, “I hope that she saw her momma fighting.”
Just a cuteness overload right here as Serena Williams' daughter celebrates the win. #USOpen
