It was Kings XI Punjab and it was another nail-biting finish as Punjab almost choked against the spin wizard Yuzvendra Chahal. KXIP’s skipper KL Rahul and Universe Boss, Chris Gayle took the match to the last overs where they needed 2 to win but Yuzvenra Chahl bowled a thrilling last over. It was Nicholas Pooran who held his nerves and launched the last ball for a straight six to secure their 2nd win of the tournament. Both of KXIP’s win came against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Earlier Bangalore were 85 for the loss of 3 in the 11th over but to everyone’s surprise AB de Villiers didn’t come out with bat. Instead it was Shivam Dube who came to bat. Kohli and Dube were not able to accelerate the inning further and lost their momentum at the crucial stage. Everyone has a question in their mind that why the South African genius have not come out to bat. Was it because he feels uncomfortable against the googly as KXIP was playing with two leggies i.e. M Ashwin and Ravi Bishnoi. Or the decision to not send de Villiers was because of the right-left combination theory. Kohli later said that it was for left right hand combination. De Villiers has a staggering record when he plays with Kohli. They both have an average of 68 at a strike rate of more than 13 per over. RCB’s decision to send Dube backfired but thankfully it was Chris Morris who gave RCB a spectacular finish as he hit 25 runs off 8 deliveries. He along with Isuru Udana scored 24 runs in the last over which was bowled by Muhammad Shami.
Chasing 172 to win Punjab almost gave heart attack to the fans. They were cruising as they sent RCB’s best bowler, Chahal for 28 runs in two overs and W. Sundar was also shown some Gaylestorm. But then again it was KXIP chasing so drama was bound to happen. They required only 2 runs in the last over from Yuzi Chahal and after the first two dot balls, Universe Boss dragged one to the wide long-on and they only managed to take 1 run even though it was a diving stop from the fielder. Rahul cuts the 4th balls straight into the palms of point field. On the 5th ball Gayle was run out trying to make the winning run. Now panic struck the whole dugout and Anil Kumble was clearly tensed. At the end KXIP required 1 run of the last ball and Nicholas Pooran hit the ball for a straight six to end the drama. After the win KL Rahul was on his knees which clearly shows how much pressure was there on him. Punjab have secured two points after this win but they are still at the bottom of the table and need some miracle to make it to the playoffs. They will play MI next on 18th October at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
