Pakistan is all set to host Zimbabwe for ODI and T20I series - Baaythak

Pakistan is all set to host Zimbabwe for their first One Day international of 2020 on Friday. Zimbabwe is in Pakistan for a three match ODI series and a T20 series. Pakistan’s premiere batman Babar Azam will debut as ODI captain for Pakistan. Friday’s match will also be the first in the new World Cup Super League, a new qualification process for the 50 overs World Cup in 2023.

Pakistan missed to host the cricket nations since 2009 when Sri Lankan team was attacked in Lahore. In the past 11 years only West Indies, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka have toured Pakistan. But now the winds are changing as England and South Africa are touring Pakistan in next year. This became possible after Pakistan toured England and also agreed to tour South Africa. Both these countries are badly hit by COVID-19 and now in a move to show their gratitude they are planning the reciprocal trips. Both England and South Africa have not visited Pakistan in the last decade.

Now Pakistan is going to face Zimbabwe in Rawalpindi and they are hopeful that they will start their journey towards World Cup 2023 with a win. All the team needs to play four home and four away series and each match will have 10 points each. Pakistan’s vice-captain Shadab Khan will miss the first game as he has suffered a leg injury in intra-squad warm-up match in Lahore. Zimbabwe, like Pakistan will also be led by a new captain i.e. 34 years old all rounder Chamu Chibhabha. Zimbabwe last appeared in an ODI in Pakistan 5 years ago. The ODI and T20I series between Pakistan and Zimbabwe will be played behind closed doors in Rawalpindi. Rawalpindi is hosting an ODI series for the first time since 2006.
