The fans of Punjab have witnessed a clinical performance from their team as KXIP register a thumping 8-wicket win against Kolkata Knight Riders. This time there was no super over and no twists at the dying stages of the game which KXIP’s fans are used to in this season. This is Punjab’s fifth consecutive victory and after this victory they have jumped to the 4th position on the points table. A fortnight ago thinking of KXIP in upper half of points table was highly unlikely as they only won one game from their first seven matches. But here we are Priety Zinta’s team is going strongly in the IPL 2020 at the moment. Against KKR, first their bowlers delivered a very efficient performance which restricted KKR to only 149/9 and after that Gayle storm struck Sharjah Cricket Stadium and KXIP were home with another victory.

When Gayle walked out to bat in the middle the match was evenly poised. The Sharjah pitch was wearing down and the mystery spinner of KKR, Varun Chakravarthy who has been selected in T20 squad of Team India for the Australian tour had taken the wicket of purple cap holder i.e. KL Rahul with a stunning googly. KXIP were 47/1 in 8 overs and the target of 150 was suddenly looking very challenging as Rahul was out and his partner Mandeep Singh was struggling to hit the ball cleanly. But at this very moment the frayed nerves of the ones sitting in the dugout were soothed by back to back sixes by Chris Gayle off Chakravarthy. The first delivery was over-pitched and it was treated accordingly after being deposited over the long-on fence. The next one was from around the wicket and Gayle mistimed it but it still managed to cross the rope easily. With these two shots, KXIP were back in the business. Morgan at this point brought the pacers in and suddenly batting become very easy. Mandeep Singh also found his touch and both the batters scored impressive fifties. We must appreciate Mandeep Singh whose father passed away few days ago but he decided to stay after Mayank Agarwal was injured.
