The most expensive sporting league of the world i.e., Indian Premiere League will start from next month in India. Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore will play the first game the 2021 edition. This match will be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on 9th April 2021.
This time the matches of IPL will be hosted in 6 different venues which include Bengaluru, Delhi, Chennai. Mumbai, Kolkata and Ahmedabad. 56 matches will be played during the league stage of Indian Premiere League. Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Bengaluru will host 10 matches each while Delhi and Ahmedabad will host 8 matches each. Each team will play at neutral venue in this year’s IPL.
IPL has witness loads of half centuries in the tournament and hitting fifties in such lucrative tournament is a very big thing for any batsman. Many players have done this in IPL. Today we have come up with top 5 players with most half centuries in IPL history.
Gautam Gambhir is at number 5 for scoring most fifties in IPL. The former Indian opening batsman and Kolkata Knight Rider’s skipper has played 152 innings and scored 36 fifties. Gambhir scored 4217 runs in his illustrious IPL career. Gautam started his IPL journey with Delhi Capitals from 2008 to 2010. From 2011 till 2017, Gautam represented Kolkata Knight Riders. He then again moved to Delhi in 2018 which was his last season.
Suresh Raina and AB de Villiers
Suresh Raina and AB de Villiers are at number 4 in scoring most half centuries in IPL. Both these batsmen have hit 38 fifties so far in IPL. Raina played 189 innings for his 38 fifties on the other hand AB de Villiers have played only 156 innings in IPL. Suresh Raina who has played for CSK since the inaugural season of IPL in 2008, is also the 2nd highest scorer in Indian Premiere League with 5368 runs. He did not represent CSK in 2020 edition of IPL but he is expected to be back in the yellow jersey in 2021 edition. AB de Villiers is playing for RCB since 2011 edition.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli:
Both Rohit and Virat are resting on the 3rd spot in hitting the most fifties in Indian Premier League. Both of them have hit 39 fifties respectively. Kohli has played 184 innings so far and has scored 5878 runs. He is leading Royal Challengers Bangalore. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma has played 195 innings and has scored 5230 runs so far. He is the captain of Mumbai Indians.
The lefty Shikhar Dhawan is at number 2 for hitting the most half centuries in IPL. Dhawan has scored 41 fifties in 175 innings. Dhawan started his IPL journey with Delhi Capitals in 2008. He then represented Mumbai Indians in 2009 and 2010 edition. He played for Deccan Chargers in IPL 2011 and 2012 editions. From 2013 to 2018 Dhawan represented Sunrisers Hyderabad. Since 2019, Dhawan is once again part of Delhi from where his IPL journey started.
David Warner holds the record of hitting most half centuries in IPL. He has smashed 48 fifties in 142 innings and has scored 5254 runs. He has also won the orange cap thrice in his illustrious IPL career. This impressive left-handed opener started his IPL journey with Delhi Daredevils in 2009 and remained in the Delhi squad till 2013 edition. Since 2014, Warner is an integral part of Sunrisers Hyderabad team. He will lead the side in the 2021 edition of Indian Premier League.
