The Game 2 of IPL 2020 between Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab had everything that a spectator want. It was a thrilling game of cricket that ended up in a tie and then in super over, Delhi just trounced Punjab team. This thrilling match has a fair share of controversies as well and many people in the Punjab ranks are fumed on this. Punjab had the match in their hands and they needed to score just one 1 run in last three balls but Punjab was unable to cross the line.
This scenario would not have even come if the umpire did not make a mistake and not called Chris Jordan for a short-run. KXIP’s co-owner and Bollywood renowned actress Preity Zinta was angry on the umpire’s decision and she took on the Twitter to express her anger.
I travelled enthusiastically during a pandemic, did 6 days of Quarantine & 5covid tests with a smile but that one Short Run hit me hard. What’s the point of technology if it cannot be used? It’s time @BCCI introduces new rules. This cannot happen every year. #DCvKXIP @lionsdenkxip https://t.co/uNMXFJYfpe

I’ve always believed in being graceful in a win or loss & in the spirit of the game but it’s also important to ask for policy changes that improve the game in the future for everyone. The past has happened and it’s imp to move on. So Looking ahead & being positive as always 👍

Mayank Agarwal was sailing the Punjab’s ship smoothly and they needed 21 runs off the last 10 balls when Chris Jordan, allrounder from England was called for a short run by square leg umpire Nitin Menon. Later TV cameras showed that Jordan dragged his bat over the line but despite that the original decision by the umpire was not overturned. This decision of umpire meant that Punjab needed 13 runs of the last over and Mayank Agarwal made 12 runs in the first 3 balls but they were unable to score one run on last three balls. If the umpire’s decision was overlooked by the 3rd umpire, KXIP would have won the match with three balls to spare. After the match was tied, DC just trounced KXIP in super over as they managed to score just 2 runs. Former India’s skipper Virender Sehwag was also not happy with the umpire’s decision and in his tweet he sarcastically said that the MOM award should have gone to the umpire.
I don’t agree with the man of the match choice . The umpire who gave this short run should have been man of the match.
Short Run nahin tha. And that was the difference. #DCvKXIP pic.twitter.com/7u7KKJXCLb— Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) September 20, 2020
