Earlier Rohit Sharma put up a classy batting show with 70 runs off 45 balls after KXIP pace duo Sheldon Cottrell and Shami struck early and sent South African Quinton de Kock for naught and Suryakumar Yadav for only 10 runs. MI’s start was slow and they maintained a run rate of 6. Once Ishan Kishan was sent to the dugout, Mumbai Indian shifted the gears as their six hitting machines Pollard and Pandya sent Punjab’s bowlers out of the park at will. Pollard scored 47 runs off 20 balls with three 4s and four 6s. Pandya was unbeaten on 30 runs of 11 balls. Pandya hit two towering sixes and three fours.
After posting a mountainous total, MI’s bowling squad was up to the task and they restrict the Punjab team to only 143/8. KXIP’s captain KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal started the innings but they were not at their destructive best as Bumrah was finding the right spots in bowling. Bumrah sent Mayank Agarwal back to the dugout of just 25 runs off 18 deliveries. Rahul Chahar got the wicket of KL Rahul and he only managed to score 17 off 19 balls. Nicholas Pooran was the only resistance and he scored 44 runs off 27 balls but James Pattinson picked up Pooran’s wicket and KXIP’s hopes died. With this win Mumbai Indians have jumped to the position where they belong i.e. the top of the ladder.
