Delhi Capitals has told us once again why they deserve the trophy this season as they have beaten Rajasthan Royals by 46 runs. Their deadly bowling line-up has put another stellar performance. Kagiso Rabada, Ashwin, Stoinis and Nortje has shown once again that why they are the most fearsome bowling unit. But it was the performance from Shimron Hetmyer at the lower middle order which will satisfy Ricky Ponting and co the most.
The Hetmyer Show
Shimron Hetmyer was once No. 3 for Delhi Capitals but his his tendency to destroy himself has shaded his awesome strokeplay. This Guyanese batsman has got the power and class but he is prone to throwing his wicket away trying to play aggressively and trying to play one shot on loop. That is why Hetmayer was not able to show his true potential for Delhi Capitals. But on Friday it was a different story as Hetmayer show the maturity as well as quality in his batting. Delhi was in totters at 79/4 when he stepped in. The spinners of RR were looking impressive, Delhi could not afford to lose another wicket. Hetmyer has to play a game where he has to be responsible by not throwing his wicket away and at the same time needs to ensure maintaining impressive run rate. Hetmayer played first few deliveries very carefully and then after his eye was set and the bowled erred he attacked like a tiger. Short ball or length he attacked and repaired his strike rate. Hetmayer’s brilliance ensured that Delhi Capitals had a very competitive total of 184/8 to defend.
The Unstoppable Ashwin
When Delhi set the target of 185 they were thinking that it was an under-par score but their bowling unit was very impressive. Especially Ravichandran Ashwin was unstoppable. When he celebrated after consuming Buttler told the whole story. After getting the wicket, he jumped and punched in the air and then wagged his index finger. He said that their was no set-up or planning for this wicket. Buttler who is likes to sweep and Ashwin invited him into the shot and the ball dipped at the very last moment. Buttler mistimed the shot and it went to Shekar Dhawan at the square-leg. Ashwin celebration showed that he is still very energetic in the shorter format of th game. After getting the wicket of Buttler, Ashwin produced a masterclass and almost killed the game in the Powerplay. Even RR’s skipper Steve Smith was also cautious.
Delhi’s captain Shreyas Iyer said that at one point he thought he thought his team has set a below par total against Rajasthan Royals as all the team who played in Sharjah went to cross the 200 runs mark. But the wicket this time behaved differently and was on a slower side. This worked in Delhi’s favour. Rajasthan Royals captain Steve Smith was also of the view that the wicket behaved differently from the two games they played here and won. Smith said that his team is not playing good and not executing when the pressure is coming. On Ben Stokes, who is at the moment undergoing a six-day quarantine, Smith said, “Stokes has not had lot of practice, he get out of quarantine tomorrow, so we will see if he plays the day after tomorrow”. Rajasthan Royals will play Sunrisers Hyderabad next on 11th October at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Delhi will play Mumbai Indians next on Super Sunday, 11th October at Abu Dhabi.
