Kolkata Knight Riders has beaten CSK by 10 runs and are back on the winning ways. KKR’s Rahul Tripathi was promoted as an opener and he did not disappoint his skipper by scoring 81 runs off 51 balls. This was Tripathi’s 5th IPL fifty but after Tripathi KKR slept away and managed to score only 167 runs. In reply, Dhoni XI was restricted to 157/5.
From CSK, Shane Watson who scored unbeaten 83 runs against KXIP resumed from where he left and scored his 21st fifty. Watson along with Ambati Rayudu made 69 runs partnership. When they were cruising both Watson and Rayudu departed within the span of 2 runs. MS Dhoni who came at No. 4 but he was not impressive as he got out for only 11 runs of 12 balls. For CSK Kedar Jhadav was the weak link as he managed to score only 7 runs off 12 balls.
Earlier Rahul Tripathi made a fifty in 31 balls to provide KKR a rock-solid foundation. At one stage KKR were 93/2 and they were looking for a big score but CSK’s Dwayne Bravo bowled some imposing bowling on his birthday and finished with impressive figure of 3/37. Other bowlers Shradul Thakur (2/28), Sam Curran (2/26) and Karn Sharma (2/25) got 2 wickets each. Dhoni was impressive behind the stumps as he took four catches and the last one of them was the most impressive.
With this win KKR has grabbed the 3rd position on the points table as they have won three matches out of five matches. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings remained on the 5th position with only four points after playing six games. CSK will next face RCB on 10th October at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. KKR will next play KXIP on the same day at Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi.
