Chennai Super Kings who were heavily criticized after losing three matches on the trot came off with flying colours against Kings XI Punjab. They just trounced KXIP by 10 wickets and end their losing streak in this year’s IPL in Dubai.
Chasing down a target of 179 runs, CSK’s opening pair comprised of Aussie veteran Shane Watson and former South African captain Faf du Plessis ensured that there is nothing fishy this time around. They just reduced this much hyped game into a ‘no contest’ with their impressive batting show. Watson smashed KXIP bowlers everywhere as he hit 11 fours and 3 sixes and scored 83 runs off 53 balls. At the other end South African Faf du Plessis was also impressive with his 87 off 53 balls. He hit 11 fours and a six in his impressive knock. KXIP bowlers had no clue at all only Muhammad Shami was a bit impressive who posted some threat to the two veterans. With this win CSK moved to the sixth spot on the points table.
Earlier KXIP’s skipper KL Rahul played a captain’s knock and made 63 runs and helped his team to post a competitive score of 178 runs for the loss of four wickets. He along with his opening partner Mayank Agarwal posted a 61 runs partnership and after this KL Rahul raised 58 runs partnership with Nicholas Pooran. KXIP would have posted a bigger total but KL Rahul and Pooran were dismissed by the pacer Shardul Thakur off successive balls in the 18th over.
After this thumping win CSK’s skipper MS Dhoni was the most relieved man as his main player Shane Watson came out of the bad patch and Du Plessis made another impressive show. Dhoni was all praises for his opening duo and was hopeful for replicating the same performance in the upcoming matches.
