Nitin Patel, Indian team physiotherapist informed the selectors that Rohit Sharma will not be available for selection just a day before the team for Australia tour was selected. When BCCI announced the team they added a footnote that a medical team will monitor the progress being made by Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma.
But then to everyone’s surprise Mumbai Indians tweeted photos of Rohit Sharma batting at nets hours after the team was announced. Indian selection committee was thinking that Rohit Sharma will miss the remaining portion of IPL in order to be fit fit the Australian tour. Now is remains to be seen that will Rohit play the remaining IPL games as India is all set to play their first game against Australia on 27th November. On Rohit’s injury Nitin Patel consulted two other specialist doctors and both of them were of the view that Rohit should rest for three more weeks. A medical report was also submitted to the selection panel that is headed by former Indian spinner Sunil Joshi. The selection committee took the advice of Patel and did not add Rohit’s name in the squad.
The video and pictures shared by Mumbai Indians on Twitter triggered the criticism and many cricketers were questioning the selection procedure. Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar said the if Rohit is in the nets then what sort of injury is he sustaining. He also said that Indian cricket fans have the right to know what actually has happened to Rohit Sharma.
The selection committee of Indian cricket is saying that they had no clue about the resumption of practice by Rohit Sharma. They say that Rohit sustained the injury on 18th October during the game against Kings XI Punjab and has not played since that match. Indian Cricket Board is pretty much hopeful that Rohit Sharma will recover soon and will travel to Australia with Team India.
