How to download files using Safari on your iPhone or iPad

Over the last few years, iOS has gradually been moving towards becoming a desktop class operating system. There are several new features added into iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 that has confirmed this view that in future iOS devices will do almost everything that laptops can do. We have seen that iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 has added Bluetooth mice support, Xbox One and PS4 controllers and some tweaks to Safari. One of the tweaks added in Safari is a download manager.  Safari has now been equipped with a download manager and you can download almost any file from Internet.

Where is Safari Download Manager located?

Open Safari iOS 13 or iPadOS 13 and then tap any download link on the Internet. You here you will see downloads icon on the top right. Tap that downloads link and you will see a list of recently downloaded items.

How to download files using Safari on iPhone or iPad

For downloading any file using Safari on iPhone or iPad you need to follow these simple steps.

  • First of all, you need to open Safari.
  • After this go to any website where you want to download anything. Tap on the download link and you will see a confirmation pop-up which will ask you if you want to download the file. Tap on Download.
  • You can tap the Downloads icon on the top right side in order to see the progress of the download. Once the download is completed you can tap Clear to empty the list of downloaded items.
  • The downloads are saved on iCloud Drive by default. In order to change the location, you need to go to Settings>Safari>Downloads.
  • You can also select whether you need to store downloaded files on your iOS device locally or on the cloud.
  • There is one more option in the Downloads page which is known as Remove Download List Items. You can tap that and select whether you need to clear the list of downloaded items in Safari automatically or manually.
