Since the release of Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl on the OTT platform, it has been in hot waters. This movie is based on Indian Air Force officer Gunjan Saxena who was the 1st ever Indian woman to fly in the war zone during the 1999 Kargil war. One of Gunjan Saxena’s ex colleague Namrita Chandi has criticized the filmmakers heavily for twisting the facts and showing the ones who have served the country in blue uniform in bad light. Chandi wrote an open letter criticizing the movie and called it a monstrous film. She was furious about the image of Air Force officers portrayed in the movie. She wrote that she has also served the country as a helicopter pilot and never faced any derogatory remarks and abuse. She added that the men in uniform are through gentlemen. They have done everything to make us comfortable. She said that initially there were some troubles like no exclusive ladies’ toilets and changing rooms. But the men always made space for us. They stood guard outside the curtain while I changed. She said that in her 15 years career she was never disrespected. She also mentioned that Gunjan was not the 1st woman pilot to fly to Kargil but Srividya Rajan was and she is not bothered about this credit being taken away from her. Namrita Chandi also advised Jhanvi Kapoor who played the main role i.e. Gunjan Saxena in the movie, not to do films like these if you are a proud Indian woman.
