Roger Federer will not participate in this month’s Miami Open for spending some extra time in preparing to work his way back out on tour. Former World No. 1 and 20 time Grand Slam champion, Federer has not participated in a competitive tournament in more than a year after undergoing two operations on his right knee during last season.

Federer who will be 40 in August will make his return to the tour next week at Doha, Qatar. He shared a photo of himself on Twitter with the caption: “The countdown to Doha begins.” ATP Doha 2021 will be the first event since Roger played semifinals at the Australian Open last year. He will also participate in a hard-court tournament at Dubai that starts on 14th March. He will also be seen at the Masters 1000 stop in Miami which will start on 24th March. But Tony Godsick, his agent has written an email to AP that he will not participate in that tournament. The tournament director of Miami Open James Blake said that he is very hopeful for Federer’s return in the 2021 edition. Federer has won Miami Open four times including the 2019 edition where he beat John Isner 6-1, 6-4 . the 2020 edition of Miami Open was cancelled due to COVID-19. Apart from 2019 edition, Federer won the 2005, 2006 and 2017 editions of Miami Open. Federer is at No. 5 in ATP rankings at the moment. He remained No. 1 in ATP rankings for 310 weeks, a record that has been leveled by Djokovic on Monday.
