Former Indian legendary batsman VVS Laxman who was a nightmare for the Aussies throughout his career. He has been the savior for Team India against Aussies at many occasions. Whether it was 167 at SCG in 2000 or the281 runs at the Eden Gardens in 2001, his stunning hundreds at Sydney and Adelaide in 2003/04 and his match winning batting performances in Mumbai 2004 and Mohali 2010, VVS Laxman has always been very very special for Indian cricket.
Though VVS Laxman had some memorable outings against Australia in his 16 years impressive career but he was also not able to win a Test series Down Under. He was in the squad which come close to winning the series in 2003/04 season but unfortunately it did not happen as Aussie captain Steve Waugh ensured the Aussie fort is intact on the final day of 2004 SCG Test. Laxman’s last series against the Aussies in 2011/12 was a nightmare for him as India lost the series 4-0 and he himself was not able to put up an impressive show with the bat in hand. The recent series victory of India against Australia Down Under was an emotional moment for the stylish right handed batsman. VVS Laxman was not able to hold back his emotions after the victory.
“There is no doubt about it. In fact, I became very emotional. I was watching the last day and following it along with my family. When Rishabh and Washington were batting, I got very tense myself because when you’re not playing the game, you’re not in control,” VVS Laxman told ‘Sports Today’
Laxman said that it was only the second time he was in tears after Indian victory, the first one was the 2011 World Cup heist. This was an epic victory for the Indians who were bold out for 36 in Adelaide and after that their main players were absent from the arena but they defeated the Aussies in a staggering way and won the series in a very historic manner.
