Ajinkya Rahane who led India to a historic Test series victory Down Under, returned to home to a hero’s welcome. He was not just impressive in the field, leading the team but was also won many hearts off the field. Ajinkya Rahane presented Aussie spinner Nathan Lyon with a signed jersey and also refused to cut a cake with a kangaroo on it. His gestures off the field are earning him huge respect and praise from all around the globe.

 

In an interview with the renowned cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle, Indian Vice captain, Rahane revealed that he decided not to cut the cake because kangaroo is Australia’s national animal and it is very important to give respect to your opponent regardless of the outcome of the match. He also added that one need to respect other countries and this is why I decided not to cut the Kangaroo on it.

 

IN the interview he also told Harsha about the game plan that India went through on the 5th day of the Gabba Test. He said that the roles were absolutely crystal clear. He said that when he went in the middle, Pujara was on the other end battling hard against the Aussie pace attack, I told him to stick to the way you play your normal game. I will attack and play positive cricket. If I can add 30-40 quick runs then the game will be in our hand.

Rahane, at the moment is in quarantine with other Indian team members in Chennai ahead of the Test series against England. The first Test will begin on 5th February at MA Chidambaram Stadium and regular captain Virat Kohli will be back leading the Indian team.
