Delhi Capitals required 17 runs in the last over and their premiere batsman Shikhar Dhawan was on the crease with Axat patel. MS Dhoni had to go with either the leggie Karn Sharma or the experienced Ravindra Jadeja as Dwayne Bravo was off the field with a niggle. Dhoni chose Jadeja for the last over to defend 17 runs.
Dhoni went for the safer option thinking that if Dhawan went off strike, Jadeja’s quickish deliveries could challenge Axar Patel. And that is what happened, Dhawan went off strike the very first ball of the last over but Axar Patel was in other mood. Axar kept finding the sweet spot of the bat and kept sending the ball out of the park. He ensured that Delhi is over the line with a ball to spare. With this win Delhi has again grabbed the top spot. Axar showed no signs of panic and sent three of Jadeja’s deliveries out of the park. Earlier, CSK’s fielders had an awful night as they dropped three dolly catches of Shikhar Dhawan who ended up scoring a century. Dhawan was dropped on 25 by Deepak Chahar, then on the score of 50 he was dropped by Mahindra Singh Dhoni. Ambati Rayudu was responsible for dropping third catch when Dhawan was playing on 90. Though Dhawan gave CSK three chances but still it was a very good innings as he was the lone warrior for Delhi in chasing 179 runs. He was very clear in his mind about the scoring areas and found the gaps very skillfully.
Earlier it was Jadeja’s quick fire 33 runs of 13 balls that helped CSK score 179 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. In the last three overs CSK grabbed 45 runs. Jadeja targeted the newbie Tushar Deshpande and the most dangerous pace duo at the moment i.e. Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje. He helped CSK to put a decent total on the board but CSK was not able to defend it. With this win Delhi Capitals are now on the top of the table while CSK is resting on the 6th place. Delhi Capitals next play Kings XI Punjab on 20th October at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. On the other hand, CSK will next play CSK will play Rajasthan Royals tomorrow at Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi.
