Kolkata Knight Riders hopes to qualify for the play-offs have been hit badly as they have lost a very important game against Chennai Super Kings by 6 wickets. Chennai Super Kings, who lifted the trophy three times but are out of the playoffs race rode on the stunning half century from the youngster Ruturaj Gaikwad and a cameo from Ravindra Jadeja to complete the chase in this last ball thriller.
Though CSK can not qualify for the playoffs but they can still avoid the last place finish. On the other hand KKR are on the 5th place as they have 12 points after 13 games. They are at the moment tied on the points with Kings XI Punjab who still have one game advantage. In IPL 2020 it was the first time CSK won back to back matches. The chase was not a smooth one as they have a topsy turvy ride. Once Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni and Ruturaj Gaikwad were out in quick succession it was evident once again that they will follow the same pattern of early season fixture between these two teams. Sam Curran was struggling to make a connection between bat and ball and Pat Cummins delivered a near perfect 18th over. At that moment CSK was looking for another defeat as they require 30 runs off the last 2 overs. At this stage Ravindra Jadeja made sure that Chennai Super Kings are off the line. The experienced all-rounder made 31 runs off 11 balls. Jadeja sent last two balls out of the park.

However the star of show was Ruturaj Gaikwad who showed his true potential when the seniors failed. Ruturaj was especially impressive against spinners plus he took the pacers to cleaners as well. He scored 72 runs off 53 balls and hit 2 sixes and 6 fours. For KKR, Varun Chakravarthy and Pat Cummins were very impressive. Varun Chakravarthy who has been named in the Indian team for Australian tour got Dhoni out for 2nd successive time but his performance was not enough for kKR to win the game as some strange decisions took the game away from them.
