Cristiano Ronaldo has said that he knew he would score against Villarreal in the Champions League game despite not playing at his best. It was the first European game at Old Trafford with the spectators since February 2020 and Ronaldo came up with a stunning 95th minute win with a staggering strike.
United was not impressive at all in the whole game and so was Ronaldo but the Spanish club did not make the most out of the numerous chances. But at the end it was Cristiano, the five times Ballon d’Or winner who decided the match as he has done many times in the past.
After the match was finished, Ronaldo texted his former teammate Rio Ferdinand who read it aloud in a TV show. He said that Ronaldo texted me tonight and said that he did not play well but he knew he had to score.
Ronaldo said that the reception from the fans of Manchester United helped him to come back in the club after so many years. It was the 178th appearance for Ronaldo in the Champions League which is a record in this competition. Ronaldo now has five goals in five games since his return to The Red Devils.
