Brisbane Heat has announced that their wicketkeeper batsman Jimmy Peirson will be the new captain of the club for the upcoming KFC Big Bash League. He will replace the long-standing Brisbane Heat captain Chris Lynn. Chris Lynn stepped down from the leadership role after 48 BBL games.
In 2020, Peirson took over the captaincy in the middle of the season after the injury of Lynn and the club went on to win three games out of five under his captaincy. The two losses under Peirson captaincy came by tiniest of margins of just one and two runs respectively. Jimmy was also very impressive with his batting. Peirson will reunite once again with Seccombe after the pair last worked with one another in Queensland U-19 squad in 2011.
Jimmy was thankful to the management of Queensland for trusting him for the leadership role. He said that the leadership role will be very challenging in BBL. He further said that he was very lucky to share the dressing room with McCullum and Chris Lynn at the Heat.
