Pakistani skipper Babar Azam has become number one in ICC’s ranking for ODI batsman. Babar Azam snatched this position from Indian skipper Virat Kohli with 865 points. Kohli is now at number 2 spot with 857 points. Babar Azam is leading Kohli with eight points. Hitman Rohit Sharma is resting on the third position with 825 points.
Kohli remained number 1 ODI batsman for 1,258 days i.e. from August 2017 to April 2021. Babar Azam made his ODI debut in 2015 and he took the position from Kohli after his staggering performance in the recent concluded ODI series against South Africa. Babar Azam was the second highest scorer of the series with the highest score of 103.
Before Babar Azam, Pakistan’s Zaheer Abbas, Javed Miandad and Muhammad Yousaf were also number one ODI batsmen in 1984, 1989 and 2003 respectively. Babar Azam is resting at the third position in T20Is and was number 1 for a long period. He was also in top 5 batsmen in Test cricket and currently he is on number 6 in the longest format of the game.
